• Torch or cellphone with flash, in case we need light after the sun sets and we lose light
Description:
The hike will start from the Smiyies picnic area going anti-clockwise, meaning the initial part
of the hike will be a gradual uphill until reaching the top part of the mountain. Throughout
the walk we will explore Cyprus’ nature and talk about the biodiversity of the area as well as
identify herbs along the way and learn what they are used for. Along the way we will also
pass from the magnesium mines and lava rocks where we can talk about the geological
history of Cyprus and how people were exploiting what the earth had to offer. On our final
stop, where we will watch the sunset from the top of the mountain, we will also talk about
the Akamas peninsula, Lara, the habitats we encounter and the threats they face.
