Anassa Hosts First Summer Edition of Animation Festival

The Animattikon Project, founded in 2017 by the Kimonos Art Centre to promote the art of animation in Cyprus, is launching a summer edition with a focus on children. Taking place on 6-11 August 2019, the festival features two programming tracks: workshops and screenings. During the day, children attend workshops led by distinguished animators from Cyprus and abroad. Students will learn the basic processes for creating animated films and will create films for screening in the festival. During the evening, the festival will present screenings at 20:30 under the stars in the Village Square; the films are generally suitable for children 10 and older and are of interest for adults, too. The 7 August programme is devoted to animated films for children from the Viborg International Animation Festival in Denmark. Films by Spanish animator Cabeza Voladora feature in the 8 August screening. On 9-11 August, viewers are treated to a three-part tribute to American director Brett Ingram. The first instalment includes screenings of several of Ingram’s short films along with his documentary on famed animator Bruce Bickford. The second evening presents screenings of Bickford’s works along with Ingram’s documentary on Bickford’s clay animation techniques. The final evening features Ingram’s documentary on outsider artist Renaldo Kuhler. Ingram will be present at the three tributes to his work and will participate in discussions following each screening. The festival is sponsored by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Culture and Education.
