Anassa’s Rotunda recently played host to the designers and artisans of Retrovi
Anassa’s Rotunda recently played host to the designers and artisans of Retrovi, who demonstrated the traditional Cypriot lace-making and weaving techniques that feature in their elegant collection of clutch bags. Using a loom, a weaver from Fyti village showed the delicate, painstaking work of creating the bold, geometric Fythkiotiko fabric, while two lace-makers from Lefkara village exhibited the needlework tradition of Lefkaritiko lace that has been passed from generation to generation for over 600 years. Retrovi encourage the women to use the traditional patterns and artistry that is their heritage - and also to enrich the work with their own creative stamp and a fresh color palette. The artists and designers answered our questions and even invited us to try a few stitches on our own! A broad sampling of the finished bags was on display. These exquisite works, aptly named for the ancient queens of Cyprus, continue to be available for purchase at Anassa’s Kult boutique.
