Easter at Anassa

On the Akamas Peninsula, Easter arrives as it always has — with the smell of flaounes from the kitchen, the chapel florists at work before dawn, and the particular stillness of a Good Friday morning above Chrysochou Bay.

Every year the Epitafios is dressed with spring flowers, the Lambradja is lit in the village square, and the table at Amorosa holds the Midnight Supper until the early hours. Finally, on Easter Sunday, Pelagos is laid for a long lunch and afternoon above the bay.

Guests of all faiths are invited throughout.

EASTER WEEKEND FESTIVITIES

Good Friday, 10  t  h April

The day begins in the kitchen, where pastry chef Nedka is already at work on the flaounes. In the chapel, florists dress the Epitafios with spring flowers. By afternoon, the procession moves through the village.

Lunch at Pelagos is al fresco and unhurried — the menu drawn from fasting traditions, fragrant with herbs from the Anassa gardens, and overlooking the bay.

The Epitafios procession follows, beginning from the Ayia Athanasia Chapel.

EASTER WEEKEND FESTIVITIES

Holy Saturday, 11t  h April

The morning begins with Holy Mass in the chapel at 10:30.

At night the Village Square is prepared for the Lambradja — the Easter bonfire, lit each Holy Saturday in symbolic reckoning of Judas’s betrayal. The fire draws the village together as the night’s main rite begins.

The Anastasi mass begins in the Ayia Athanasia Chapel. The congregation gathers as the priest leads the service around the Epitafios. Just before midnight, the chapel falls dark. A single flame is carried from the altar — passed candle to candle through the congregation, until the whole space is lit. Finally, the priest calls out Christos Anesti.

Afterwards, the Amorosa Bar holds the Midnight Supper: flaounes and tsourekia, local cheeses, magiritsa, avgolemono, and the red eggs are cracked at the table.

EASTER WEEKEND FESTIVITIES

Easter Sunday, 12th April

Easter dawns at Anassa with a breakfast table laid with flaounes, olive pie, Easter eggs, and pastry chef Nedka’s Easter chocolate centrepiece.

Morning Mass takes place in the chapel and is followed by the Easter Egg Hunt for our younger guests. Lunch at Pelagos includes traditional lamb roasted on an open fire, chicken souvla, meat pies, crispy pork belly, and the particular satisfaction of a Sunday afternoon with no particular hurry.

The evening offers two tables. In the Village Square the Cypriot Buffet Dinner serving traditional dishes, live music, and dancing under the stars. For a quieter Easter Sunday evening, Helios offers its à la carte menu amongst the olive trees.

Walnut & Cinnamon Body Scrub by Subtle Energies

The Walnut & Cinnamon Body Scrub by Subtle Energies is a fitting place to begin: finely ground walnut shells and warming cinnamon worked into the skin with hot compresses, the aromatics of Tulasi, Wild Turmeric, and Limbu moving through body and mind in a way that the season seems to call for. The ritual closes with personalised hydration, leaving the skin smooth, radiant, and quietly restored.
