Take a Spiritual Journey with a Shaman

A holiday gives you the time to unwind, take care of yourself, and try new things. So why not try a counselling session with a shaman? Shamanism is a healing tradition originating in the indigenous peoples of northern Europe and Siberia. A shaman is a guide who can help you, through ritual and discovery, to resolve personal problems and find empowerment. Triona Martin, a practitioner with over 30 years of experience, says that people come to a shaman for two primary reasons: ‘They are seeking healing, or they want to learn the skill of shamanic journeying for help with their everyday lives.’ The shaman begins a session with a healing circle centred on a set of objects representing the four essential elements—air, fire, water, and earth. Participants share breathing exercises and discuss how to find spiritual help. Before beginning the healing ritual, the shaman will ask you if there is an issue in your life that needs attention. Then, you will lie on the floor with your eyes closed. The shaman uses drums and rattles to journey into a trance and appraise and heal your spiritual state. Afterwards, the shaman reveals what was learned on the journey, explaining the spiritual forces you can summon to promote self-care. You may also learn to make a journey by yourself, with drumming and guidance from the shaman helping you to find answers to your questions. As part of its Bespoke Experiences programme, Anassa offers counselling sessions with Triona Martin on site. It’s an opportunity to forge a new path toward wellbeing.
